I absolutely adore him, I've started with the eyes (which is rare for me, I usually leave them 'til last!) and I will finish his whole face at a later date when I have the time.

This is very good, which is no surprise coming from you, the only issue I see is that his left and right eye have some differences, like the right one has way less pronounced lashes, and the left one has softer highlights than the right, but I don't know what picture you're working off of so this might all be perfect, and wether or not it's like this in the original photo it's just nitpicking so I have something to say other than how great it is.
